Please be aware that the Texas License To Carry (LTC) Part 2 course DOES NOT INCLUDE INSTRUCTION AND EDUCATION ON OPERATION OF A HAND GUN NOR PROPER SAFETY WHEN USING A HAND GUN.

All applicants for an LTC (part 2) must demonstrate proper knowledge and use of a handgun in order to be certified.

Upon arriving at the gun range, the applicant should be able to:

  • Load the Magazine
  • Load the Weapon
  • Unload the Weapon
  • Function the Slide
  • Making the Weapon “Safe”
  • Operate the Safety
  • Identify Single Action vs. Double Action
  • Use a proper grip
  • Identify their dominate eye
  • Understand “Dry-firing the weapon”
  • Function the Slide lock & Release
  • Release the Slide – Manually vs. Mechanically
  • Operate the De-cocking Lever
  • Breaking the Weapon Down and Putting the Weapon Back Together
  • Breaking the Weapon Down and Putting the Weapon Back Together

If you do not have the proper knowledge and skill to safely operate a handgun, please take the “Basic Firearms Training On-line Course” and communicate with the Firearms Instructor to schedule additional training time prior qualifying.

The “Basic Firearms Training Course” includes an additional hour of handgun instruction before qualification.

After successful completion of Texas License to Carry (LTC) Part 1, you will receive a certificate of completion that can be printed and presented to a LTC instructor to complete the range (Part 2) portion of training. AEPS LTC Instructor Robert (Bobby) Gideon will qualify students in the Austin, TX, area. Other Licensed LTC Firearms Instructors are not bound by law or LTC Rules and Regulations to accept the online LTC certificate. Accepting the online certificate is entirely up to the LTC Firearms Instructor.

Part 2 includes:

  • 1 hour of range training plus proficiency test with a licensed LTC gun instructor.
  • Receive an AEPS Corp Certificate of Completion (Certificate may be uploaded to DPS web site.)
  • Receive a LTC-101 from the online instructor for the ONLINE TRAINING via e-mail.
  • The student will take the LTC-101 to the LTC firearms instructor.
  • The LTC-101 (PART B: RANGE INSTRUCTION) will be completed by the LTC licensed firearm instructor.
  • The LTC-101 will need to be completed by the LTC licensed firearm instructor (PART C: PROFICIENCY DEMONSTRATION)
  • The completed LTC-101 will then be submitted by the student, as an attachment of training, to the DPS-Regulatory Services.
