American Eagle Protective Services (AEPS) offers an Online License to Carry (LTC) Handgun Course.

  • Robert Gideon is certified under Texas GC 411.188 and GC 411.190 to administer the LTC Online Course (classroom instruction only).
  • Robert Gideon is certified under Texas GC 411.188 and GC 411.190 to administer the LTC Classroom Instruction and Firearms Qualifications.

  • This on-line course is approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Regulatory Services Division.
  • Robert Gideon is an approved Online Course Provider # 07046011

This course qualifies you to open carry and/or concealed carry a handgun in public as allowed by law.

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age (18 years of age for active duty military) and must meet Federal qualifications to purchase a handgun.
  • You must also submit a completed application, pay the required fees, complete all required training and submit required supplemental forms and materials.

The AEPS Corp online License to Carry (LTC) course includes:

  • Laws Related to Weapons and to the Use of Deadly Force
  • Handgun Use and Handgun Safety
  • Non-Violent Dispute Resolution
  • Proper Firearm Storage to Prevent Theft and Accidental Injury
  • Suicide Prevention
  • There is a separate charge for the range portion of the training

There are very strict guidelines to the online training

LTC – One, Two, and Three-Step Application Process

After you have applied online at https://texas.gov your next steps would be:

STEP 1 – Schedule Electronic Fingerprints.

STEP 2 – Retrieve your LTC-100 or LTC-101 along with supporting document(s) (if any). Note: Please refer to your online checklist or email for supporting document(s) to submit to DPS.

STEP 3 – Submit and upload your LTC-100 or LTC-101 along with supporting document(s) to DPS through the RSD secured website: https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/contact/ltcatt.aspx

After successful completion of the LTC online course, the student will:

  1. You must complete 4-6 hours of classroom (or online) training and 1-2 hours of range training plus proficiency test with a licensed LTC gun instructor.
  2. Receive an AEPS Corp Certificate of Completion (Certificate does not need to be uploaded to the DPS website.)
  3. Receive a LTC-101 from the online instructor for the ONLINE TRAINING via e-mail.
  4. The student will take the LTC-101 to the LTC firearms instructor.
  5. The LTC-101 (PART B: RANGE INSTRUCTION) will be completed by the LTC licensed firearm instructor.
  6. The LTC-101 will need to be completed by the LTC licensed firearm instructor (PART C: PROFICIENCY DEMONSTRATION)
  7. The completed LTC-101 will then be submitted by the student, as an attachment of training, to the DPS-Regulatory Services.

Before you register and pay for this course you need to understand the following information:

  1. Applicants that complete the online course must complete the range instruction part of the handgun proficiency course.
  2. Applicants who complete the online course must be given an additional one (1) to two (2) hours of range training before completing the range proficiency demonstration.
  3. Applicants must pass the range proficiency demonstration with a score of 70% or better.

Active duty, Veterans, and Texas Military Forces

  • Active duty, Veterans, and Texas Military Forces are exempt from the LTC Training.
  • Active duty, Veterans, and Texas Military Forces must provide their military range qualification scores from the preceding 10 years in place of the range instruction part of the handgun proficiency course to the Texas DPS.
  • Active duty, Veterans, and Texas Military Forces may provide the department with any passing military firearm range scores.

Active Texas Peace Officer

  • Active Texas Peace Officers are exempt from the LTC training.
  • Active Texas Peace Officer must submit their name and rank; and a current copy of their peace officer license and evidence of employment as a peace officer.
  • Active Texas Peace Officer is not required to complete the handgun proficiency course in order to receive a license to carry.

Refund Policy – THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR ONLINE COURSES.

  • Other Licensed LTC Firearms Instructors are not bound by law or LTC Rules and Regulations to accept the online LTC certificate.
  • Accepting the online certificate is entirely up to the LTC Firearms Instructor.

The applicant should secure a commitment from an LTC Firearms Instructor to accept the LTC online certificate prior to paying for this course.

  • The LTC online Instructor and the LTC Firearms Instructor are responsible for submitting an LTC-9 (Class Completion form) to the Department of Public Safety verifying that you completed the online training, the firearms training, and the range proficiency demonstration.
  • The online training, the firearms training, and the range proficiency demonstration are required to obtain your LTC license.
  • It is not a DPS pre-requisite that you fill out the online state application before taking the online training. 
  • You can complete the LTC application after completing the online training.
